Shed Plans Free? What's the catch? No catch, you can download a set of free shed plans and start building your shed today!
The 8'x12' shed I built set me back about $200.00. That is the cost of the metal roof. The rest of the lumber and the door was free. I went green. I knew where some old buildings were being torn down. All the demo from that job would have been burnt. I recycle!
Green building makes a lot of sense today. We can build in ways that are friendlier to our planet. Every little bit helps.
Economically, green shed building is a wise move. Salvaging and re-using building materials saves you money, often times, plenty of money. It's a twofer.
Methods To Find Salvaged Building Materials For Your Shed:
- See any construction projects nearby? Ask the head honcho if you may have some of the demo. He will probably say "Help yourself"
- Do you know anyone in the building trades? Let them know what you need. They might be aware of some material that is getting thrown away.
- Check your local classifieds. Many people have salvaged lumber and will give it away just to get rid of it! Or they will sell it for far less than you would pay for new.
- Check the yellow pages for salvage companies and get a big discount.
- Ask at the lumber yard if they have "economy studs" or returned merchandise that is discounted.
Okay. We got the shed plans free, saved big money on materials while saving the planet, now we gotta roll up our sleeves and build this shed.

Building A Shed Step by Step
The free shed plans have pretty good instructions included. The video below is doing a great job of showing how a shed is built from the ground up. Building a shed can be fun. Whenever you see it, you feel good knowing you did it yourself and you got the shed plans free.
The foundation of your shed must be correct or every phase of building that follows will suffer. Start with a firm and level foundation and you have won half the battle. I will leave a link below that explains foundations in greater detail.
Each phase that follows; floor, walls, roof frame, roof sheathing, roofing, and siding can be done systematically. While separate, they are part of the whole. A bit of carpenter philosophy, if you will.
If you have never built a shed before, this may seem daunting. I believe a total novice could follow these shed plans and be successful. Help from a building book or the internet is always there if you get stuck.
